25.06.2020 All over the world billions of euros are being put together to cushion the dramatic economic consequences of the corona pandemic. Some see a great opportunity for climate protection in the expensive restart of the global economy. Since mid-May, more and more international corporations have been signing the “Recover Better” declaration, which was initiated by the Science Based Targets Initiative, the UN Global Compact and the We Mean Business Coalition. It calls on governments to combine their measures to combat the consequences of the pandemic with ambitious climate protection so that the goal of zero emissions can be achieved before 2050. The 170 or so companies that have signed up to date, including LafargeHolcim, H&M, Henkel and Verbund, want to do their part despite the current crisis: As supporters of the initiative, they have committed themselves to achieving scientifically sound emission reduction targets that are in line with the Paris Agreement.
