25.3.2021 Green hydrogen for heavy goods traffic: This is the goal of a new alliance between the OMV and the Austrian Post. The two groups want to work together in the future to promote electromobility with the help of hydrogen fuel cells for truck traffic in Austria. OMV will provide the green hydrogen and the infrastructure and recently decided to build a 10 MW electrolysis plant at the Schwechat location. In turn, Swiss Post is planning to use test vehicles and integrate them into the existing fleet. The first hydrogen-powered truck should be on the road by 2023 at the latest. The two partners assume that around 2030 climate-friendly trucks will be operated by various users in Austria by 2.000. “We look forward to jointly developing economically viable solutions for the use of hydrogen and CO2- to further develop reduction ”, says Thomas Gangl, OMV Chief Downstream Operations Officer.
