water crisisSince the 1960s, water consumption by agriculture, industry and communities has increased immensely globally. Even more than a lack of rain, this has led to water shortages in 17 countries from India to the Middle East to North Africa that are approaching “Day Zero”, as the World Resource Institute found thanks to new methods. Solutions are seen primarily in higher agricultural efficiency and reduction of food waste, in the preservation of wetlands and in the expansion of wastewater use.
