Whether fruit juices or chocolate, towels or shopping bags - in Austria, around 2.100 products carry the green-blue Fairtrade quality seal. 2018 achieved a new sales record of 333 million euros for its certified products - a significant increase of nine percent over 2017, as Fairtrade Austria recently announced. Around 44 million euros flowed to the producer organizations.
Fairtrade has good news for cocoa producers in particular: starting in October, the organization will raise the minimum price by 20 percent. In Austria, some 150 licensed companies source Fairtrade raw materials, including Pfanner, Manner, Niemetz and Tchibo. One, however, is no longer there: the long-standing Fairtrade licensee Josef Zotter has been setting up his own label since last year.
